Greyham Dawes, FCA, DChA, works full-time as a specialist compliance adviser to the UK charity sector, drawing on his extensive knowledge of the world's leading regulatory regime for charities upon retiring from the Charity Commission, where as head of accountancy policy (1991-7) he was principally concerned with developing, implementing and promoting State regulation of the public accountability of charities in England & Wales. This included the ground-breaking 1995 „Charities SORP“ (Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities), Regulations to underpin the SORP, a computer-based monitoring system, web-based “operational guidance” for the Charity Commission's non-accountant caseworking staff and liaison with leading charity auditing firms at the time.
He serves on a number of UK charity sector standing committees on accountability and compliance matters, is a visiting lecturer on charity financial management degree courses at London's City University (Cass Business School) and writes extensively for the sector. His writings include Tolley’s “Charity Accountability & Compliance” (1998), Jordan’s “Charity Accounts - a Practitioner's Guide to the Charities SORP” (4th edition imminent) and Jordan’s “Charities Administration Service” (a loose-leaf publication on annual subscription, of which he is joint general editor).
